Arete Australia, a division of Kane Constructions, has been awarded the contract for an upgrade to the National Sports Museum at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Arete Australia, who specialise in fit outs, won the contract after a long and competitive tender process. They were chosen by the Melbourne Cricket Club for their track record in delivering custom—sometimes challenging—building works across the state.
Stuart Fox, CEO of the Melbourne Cricket Club, said his company intends to turn the National Sports Museum into a sporting and cultural icon.
“We’re delighted to have a highly-respected and award-winning company like Kane Constructions carry out this important redevelopment project,” Mr Fox said.
“As a specialist division of Kane Constructions, arete Australia focuses on interiors, fit outs and refurbishments and its team of highly experienced construction specialists have delivered numerous high-quality projects.”
Arete Australia’s experience in building spans across sport and leisure, tertiary education, government, health, commercial, and hospitality.
Tristan Forster, Joint Managing Director for Kane Constructions, said his company was thrilled and privileged to be part of the National Sports Museum Refresh Project.
He also said that his company is keen to collaborate with the MCC, the consultants and the various stakeholders to create a leading sports museum, not just in Australia, but in the world.
The upgrade has been partly funded by the Victorian government, who are investing $5 million of taxpayer dollars.
The renovated National Sports Museum is expected to provide a unique sporting experience for its visitors. Through new technologies, it will boast a leading-edge interactive exhibition.
The National Sports Museum will be open until Friday August 16, before it closes for upgrade works. At the MCG, daily tours will continue without interruption during project delivery. The tours operate one-per-day, from 10am to 3pm at Gate 3.
The upgrade is scheduled for completion in early 2020.
