Selected by Capitol Alliance, Icon Co will be developing the 17-storey project. The Mariott Docklands will become a refreshing and exciting landmark feature for the Docklands. The retail, leisure and entertainment precinct will boast sunset views of the west as well as views back towards the Melbourne skyline.
“This is a significant and exciting project for Melbourne and Icon is thrilled to be playing a major part,” says Mohan Du, Capital Alliance founder and Chief Executive.
“In the past 18-months, hotels have made a real comeback in Melbourne, and the Marriot Docklands will be one of the first international luxury offerings to be completed in this wave – an accomplishment we will be extremely proud of.” he says.
The Docklands Residencies is the first major project to be delivered under the consolidated entity of Icon – the result of a recent merger between Cockram Australia and Icon Co. This formed one of Australia’s largest construction companies.
The development will join WOODWORK which is an 8 storey CLT office currently under construction within The District. It will include a Woolworths supermarket, Dan Murphy’s and large scale Asian grocer.
DKO Architecture have been selected as the architects for the project. The design includes vertical plantings as a feature to add a touch of nature as well as build privacy between apartments.
The goals of the District Docklands are in line with creating a world class ‘urban village’, following their long-term investment strategy in the precinct.
“This marks another significant milestone in the continued evolution of the precinct. More importantly, it highlights the rapid growth and extensive development pipeline in the area.” says Michael Moss, AsheMorgan Principal and owner of The District Docklands.
It will also include 100 oversized 1-3 bedroom apartments in addition to the Mariott. Residents can also look forward to an infinity pool serviced by an adjoining bar. The ground-level will boast a restaurant, bar and laneway cafe open to residents, guests and visitors.
